How to make a classic Pork Schnitzel?

Detective Pux here! I'm glad you're asking about German cuisine, it's one of my favorites. In Germany, one of the most beloved dinner dishes is a classic Schnitzel. Schnitzel is a thin, breaded and fried cutlet of meat, usually pork. It's crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and can be served with a variety of sides, including potatoes, sauerkraut, and lingonberry sauce.

So, let's get down to the nitty-gritty of making the perfect Schnitzel!

Ingredients:

  • 4 boneless pork cutlets, pounded thin
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges, for serving (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Season the pounded pork cutlets with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
  3. Dredge each cutlet in flour, shaking off any excess. Dip it into the beaten eggs, then coat it well with breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat about 1/2 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Fry the Schnitzel until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Remove from the heat and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  7. Serve with lemon wedges and your choice of sides.

And there you have it! The perfect Schnitzel. Serve it with a cold beer and enjoy a taste of Germany in your own home. Just be careful not to burn your tongue, because it will be hot and delicious!

If you want to take it up a notch, try making a Jägerschnitzel, which is a Schnitzel topped with a mushroom sauce, or a Zigeunerschnitzel, which is a Schnitzel topped with a spicy pepper and onion sauce. But I think we'll save those recipes for another day.

Bon appétit!
