What are the longest running quiz shows on TV?

Detective Pux here, at your service! Now, I don't know about you, but I love a good quiz show. There's just something about watching people compete to see who knows the most obscure facts that really gets my blood pumping. And as someone who spends a lot of time watching TV (it's all in the name of research, of course), I consider myself something of an expert on the subject. So, without further ado, let's take a look at the longest running quiz shows on TV!

  1. Jeopardy!

Ah, Jeopardy! The classic quiz show that has been entertaining audiences since 1964. Hosted by the inimitable Alex Trebek (may he rest in peace), this show has seen contestants from all walks of life compete for cash prizes by answering trivia questions in the form of answers. And with over 8,000 episodes under its belt, Jeopardy! is easily the longest running quiz show on TV.

  1. Wheel of Fortune

Another classic quiz show that has been on the air for decades is Wheel of Fortune. First airing in 1975, this show has seen contestants spin a giant wheel and guess letters in order to solve word puzzles. And with over 7,000 episodes and counting, it shows no signs of slowing down.

  1. The Price is Right

While not strictly a quiz show in the traditional sense, The Price is Right certainly tests contestants' knowledge of retail prices. First airing in 1956, this show has seen generations of viewers tuning in to see people compete for cars, appliances, and other big-ticket items. And with over 9,000 episodes and counting, it's safe to say that The Price is Right is one of the longest running game shows of all time.

  1. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? burst onto the scene in the late 90s and quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Hosted by Regis Philbin (and later, Meredith Vieira), this show challenged contestants to answer a series of increasingly difficult multiple choice questions in order to win a million dollars. And while it hasn't been on the air as long as some of the other shows on this list, it still has an impressive 3,000 episodes under its belt.

  1. Family Feud

Last but certainly not least, we have Family Feud. First airing in 1976, this show has seen families compete against each other to guess the most popular answers to survey questions. And with over 6,000 episodes and counting, it's clear that viewers just can't get enough of watching Steve Harvey make awkward jokes while families argue over their answers.

So, there you have it! The longest running quiz shows on TV. And while there are certainly other shows that have been on the air for a long time (I'm looking at you, Jeopardy! and The Price is Right), these five are the ones that have stood the test of time. And who knows? Maybe in another 50 years, we'll be talking about some new quiz show that's taken the world by storm. Until then, I'll be here on my couch, watching reruns of Jeopardy! and shouting out the answers like a madman. It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it!
