Chapter 5: The Confession

Detective Peter Pux couldn't believe it. After days of tireless investigation, he had finally gotten the break he had been waiting for. He had confronted Alex with the new information he had received from one of Jessica's friends, and after a long and tense interrogation, Alex had finally cracked and confessed to killing Jessica in a fit of jealousy.

Peter couldn't believe what he was hearing. He had suspected that Alex might have had something to do with Jessica's disappearance, but he never could have imagined that he would be capable of such a crime.

But as he listened to Alex's confession, all the pieces of the puzzle finally fell into place. It all made sense now. Jessica had been acting strange lately, and had been spending a lot of time with a new group of friends that her family didn't know much about. One of those friends was Alex, who was secretly in love with her. When he found out that she was planning on leaving town with her long-term boyfriend, he snapped.

Peter couldn't believe that he had solved the case. He had finally found out what had happened to Jessica, and he was one step closer to bringing those responsible to justice.

He knew that he needed to get Alex's confession on record, so he pulled out his recorder and began to question him further.

"Alex, I need you to tell me everything that happened," Peter said. "I need to know exactly what happened on the night of Jessica's disappearance."

Alex looked down at his feet, tears streaming down his face. "I didn't mean to do it," he said quietly. "I just couldn't bear the thought of losing her. I didn't know what I was doing."

Peter listened intently as Alex told him the whole story. He explained how he had followed Jessica when she left her house that night, and how he had confronted her when she arrived at her destination. He told Peter how he had lost control and strangled her in a fit of jealousy and rage, and how he had disposed of her body in a shallow grave in the woods.

As Alex finished his confession, Peter couldn't believe what he was hearing. He had solved the case, but at what cost? Jessica was gone, and her family and friends were left to deal with the aftermath of her tragic death.

But at least now, Peter knew that he had brought those responsible to justice. And that was all that mattered.
